CCI supports people with disabilities to promote and develop their role as valued, participating and contributing members of society.
At CCI we recognise:
- people with disabilities are important members of the community
- each person has unique needs and aspirations
- families and/or friends are critical in the life of each person with a disability
- planning with each person helps them meet their goals
- timeliness, flexibility and responding to cultural needs and values are important
- people with disabilities and their family/friends are a valued resource for ideas, leadership, planning and evaluation
Governance
CCI is governed by a six member Board, elected annually by the membership at the Annual General Meeting. The Board consists of a chairperson and five members who represent families, people with disabilities, and the community.
The aims of the Board are to adhere to the Constitution and to ensure that CCI supports people with disabilities in accordance with our Purpose and Principles.
Funding
CCI is funded by Disability ACT and ACT Health to provide the following services:
Disability ACT
- Individual support packages
- Mature carers
- Young people in transition from school
ACT Health
- Information, advocacy and counselling
- Co-ordination/case management of supports and services
- Flexible family support
- Co-ordination of supports for people with intellectual disabilities and mental health issues
Staff
CCI currently has thirteen staff. This includes the Executive Director, a team of five people providing administrative and financial support, and six co-ordinators, actively working with people with disabilities and their families. Our work is conducted in accordance with our Purpose and Principles.
Due to a successful tender, we will be actively recruiting for coordinators and a Manager of Support Services. These positions will be advertised in the Canberra Times on Saturday 27 November and again on Wednesday the 1 December 2010. We will also be advertising on the HACC Network.
